Bald
Hill Ridge Preserve
In late 1996 the Open Space Committee announced the purchase
of five spectacular acres on Bald Hill's ridgeline near Fairfax.
This parcel, formerly known as the Quilici property, is now
part of the larger 30 acre Bald Hill Ridge Preserve owned and
managed by the Marin County Open Space District. This was a
top priority acquisition since it lies adjacent to Marin Municipal
Water District land and the previously acquired Fraser and Cadden
open space properties, which were acquired in 1993 and 1995,
respectively.
The property was also considered to be significant because
of its proximity to Bald Hill's summit, a high priority for
preservation due to its potential for significant development.
Adjacent to Bald Hill, this property is located at the second
highest elevation along this vital ridgeline and greenbelt and
is highly visible land that can be seen from many parts of San
Anselmo. The purchase price of approximately $950,000 for all
three properties was funded by a three-way match from MCOSD,
the Marin Community Foundation and the Town of San Anselmo,
using its Open Space Fund and other creative methods. Together
these three parcels serve as testimony to the Town's resolve
and commitment to preserve the Bald Hill area as a landmark
for future generations.
